American Hero Quilt project
http://www.americanheroquilts.com/home.htm
We met Linda Flanagan who lives in Stanwood, Washington in the summer of 2008 as she was visiting the area and came to Heartworks for a bit of a fabric fix. Linda told us about the Wounded Warrior program and we got involved right away!
Our loyal band of quilters, both those who come into our shop and those who read our newsletter, have come through with many blocks and quilt tops over the past 6 months for the Wounded Warriors who are returning from Iraq and Afganistan. We sent a huge box of blocks and quilt tops last fall and another huge box of blocks and quilt tops this past week, mid June 2009. Thank you to all have been so kind, generous and patriotic.
Jimmy Fund Quilts
At Heartworks we are committed to helping others. Our newest project was to make and donate quilts to the Jimmy Fund Cancer Center for Children at Dana Farber Cancer Institute. On June 10th, 2009 we donated 25 quilts to the Jimmy Fund. Heartworks has donated the fabric and supplies and these very kind ladies have donated their time to make the quilts- Sally Bush- Fly Creek; Celia Lamb- Cooperstown; Joyce Martin- New Berlin; Sue Winnie- Fly Creek; Betty Giffin- Cooperstown.

Martha and Kaitlyn both work in Pediatric Oncology at Dana Farber and will have a part in giving the quilts to children getting treatment for cancer.
Here are some of the quilts that we took for the children at the Jimmy Fund.

A new building called the Yawkey Center for Cancer Care is being built at the Dana Farber Complex and the iron workers are writing the children's names on the girders. We have pictures to share with you.

Can you read the children's names on the girders?
Thanks to all who have helped with our "Quilt Pink" project. Because of you we have sent two "Bow Tie" quilts to American Patchwork & Quilting to support the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation and breast cancer research. Quilts from all the participating shops nationwide will be auctioned off starting in May 2007. A check will be sent to the Susan G. Komen Foundation in October 2007. Stay tuned to our "What's new page" for auction information!

For some time now we have been having quilting "bees"
where many of us gather, and donate our time to complete quilts to be
used for children's rescue, when they either have been in an accident, or
have been taken to a shelter...this is our way
of showing them, that indeed someone cares,
as they snuggle up in these fine quilts.
We have to date donated 100 + quilts for this cause...If you'd be interested in joining us in making these quilts watch our
web site and also our newsletters for dates.
A "Heartfelt Thank You" for all who have donated their
time to this effort from the staff at Heartworks.
A "touching" story from a local parent
by Melissa Manikas
Summer '06 - Kaley Manikas (5 yrs. old) was transported by Cooperstown Ambulance
and was given a "Heartworks" quilt.
She immediately clamed down,
and now sleeps with her blanket every night!
Great reviews for our Flannel Quilt Kits:
From Diane Thompson, Cold Brook, NY
I bought a flannel quilt kit from you last year, didn't get the back at the time.
Decided I could go to a local chain store and pick up
flannel for the back. Well, I couldn't believe the difference in
quality...when I sit in my chair with that blanket over me, it's always
with the "Heartworks Flannel" side towards me...
that's why today, I'm back here purchasing more flannel for
another blanket!
From Barbara Jordan, Franklin, NY
"I love your Log Cabin Flannel Quilt Kit,I thought you were kidding when you said it
was quick and easy! It truly was...my
husband asked, who snuck in and helped me!
Made me look like an expert!
So...I've been back to Heartworks, and purchased more flannel kits,
they are better than a book!
"Wellness Quilt(s)"

Project #6
Thank You "Monday Girls" for your heartfelt time, we surely appreciate it.
Any one wishing to come help on our "Wellness Quilt" projects are welcome,
please come to the shop on
Mondays 10am - 5pm
Or
Mondays 7-9 pm
Due to some design changes at the Hosp. our quilts are currently not hanging, we hope
the necessary changes can be made and they can accomodate us again soon.
If not this project...some community project is in process almost all the time!
We are currently making more "Rescue Quilts" for the local Emergency Squads and Police...
These quils are meant to comfort a child when they are involved in a car crash or other emergency.
A Heartfelt Thanks to all who participated!
We have had great reviews from both the staff at the hosp.
and also the patients..we have accomplished our goal,
and will certainly continue with this project!
